Vikings, Castles & History.
York is an amazing, northeast England city built within a wall. A City Wall which boasts amazing views and also forms a walkway on both sides of the River Ouse. It was originally founded by the ancient Romans, with a Viking Centre in the center of the city where you can view artifacts recovered from right beneath your feet. York also has a huge 13th-century Gothic Cathedral (York Minster) which has medieval stained glass and 2 functioning bell towers. This Gothic Cathedral will blow your mind!

You can enjoy York over just one day, which is great. We spent a full day here (9am-5pm) and traveled by train and by foot only. Expect a lot of walking, because that’s the best way to get around and see things you might not see if you’re tucked away in a car!
Things we explored in York (and recommend):
– Jorvick Viking Center (amazing!)
– Had lunch at Carluccio’s (portions are small but tasty)
– Visited the York Minister
– Visited the National Trust, Treasurers House (a beautiful garden)
– Walked the full City Walls
– Viewed from the outside: The York Castle Museum, Clifford’s Tower (a castle keep once used for prisoners) and through the town. The town is full of liveliness, peoples, chatter, dogs, kids, food, ice-cream.
